Subject: thanks and cache & conf problems
First, thanks to those who responded to my last post regarding missing
icons via proxy. The problem was multi-faceted, but seemed to revolve
aound the exact definitiion of (or lack thereof) "ServerRoot". A few
hours of watching the server operating with -vv mode helped too.
Which conveniently leads to my next problem(s).
o Here is an exerpt from the very verbose output of my httpd:
Caching..... off
CacheRoot... ignored (caching is off)
However, the following exerpt from the the conf file shows
Caching On
CacheRoot /vol/info/www/Httpd/Cache
CacheSize 50 M
that the Cache is *explicitly* being turned on.
It appears that the entire configuration file may not be being
read.(?). As a matter of fact, the server thinks that the Cache is
off, regardless of the state of the "Cache" directives, or whether
the "Cache" directive is present at all. This is *wrong*.
o The thought that the entire conf file is not being read also comes
to mind when I consider the definition of ServerRoot. Can't this be
defined at will by the administrator, or does it mean a very specific
thing, ie, the actual location of httpd or somehting like that?
I have the following in my conf file
ServerRoot /vol/info/www/Httpd
but the -vv output says
ServerRoot.. /vol/info/www/Httpd/Daemon
which is the actual location of httpd. What is going on?
Thanks SO much for your assistance in helping me iron out my problems
with my caching proxy. -- Harry
