Subject: Carrying originating client details through proxy servers

Are there any plans for proxying http servers to carry the originating
client detail through to the intended http server?

We are experimenting with proxying (for caching purposes only) and the first
problem we encountered was accessing areas with domain name authentication
when the proxy server was from a different domain than the client.
Another problem is where the server needs to respond to the originating
client directly, which we require for some automated software
distribution that we are doing via the web.

Would there be security implications?

If this issue has already been discussed or if anybody has better ways of
doing these things please point me in the right direction.

Thanks
